Perry R. Eichor was born in 1935 in El Reno, Oklahoma where he attended public schools until his graduation in 1953. After working with his father in the restaurant business, he joined the United States Air Force in 1954. Over the next eight years, he served in various assignments throughout the United States. Mr. Eichor graduated from Michigan State University in December of 1963 with a B.S. in Police Administration. Three months later he was commissioned by the Air Force and continued to serve the United States.
Following a tour in United States Air Force Headquarters, Mr. Eichor’s career culminated as Chief of Security and Police Operations at Andrews Air Force Base. While there, he was in charge of security for the President and Vice President of the United States and other dignitaries. He retired from the service in 1975 and became the Director of Safety and Security at Northeast Missouri State University where he also instructed classes in Police Organizational Management, Traffic Law and Accident Prevention.
In 1977, Mr. Eichor was appointed to the Chief of Police in Winnsboro, South Carolina where he remained until the fall of 1979 when he accepted the position of Director of Criminal Justice Support Department in Greenville, South Carolina. In 1986 Mr. Eichor accepted an additional position, in Greenville, as the Director of Greenville County Detention Center.
After the restructuring of Greenville County Government in 1993, in addition to remaining Director of the Detention Center and the Director of the Criminal Justice Support Department, Mr. Eichor assumed the responsibility of leadership for the Greenville County Emergency Medical Services System Division until his retirement in 1998.
In 1998 Mr. Eichor established Eichor Enterprises, a consultant firm providing support for the South Carolina Association of Counties, serving on the Corrections and Detention committee and other detention related issues for various county governments.
The City of Simpsonville elected Perry Eichor as Mayor of Simpsonville, South Carolina December 4, 2011 where he currently serves his term.
Not only is Mr. Eichor the Mayor of Simpsonville, a member of numerous professional associations and civic organizations, he is also a licensed realtor and auctioneer, an antique toy enthusiast, and the regional editor of several toy journals and books. He and his wife, Donna, reside in Simpsonville, South Carolina.
