Eddie Case, former administrator, remembered at road dedication

Simpsonville, S.C. — Local and state officials gathered in Fountain Inn on Sunday to remember former Simpsonville city administrator Eddie Case with the dedication of Edward Charles “Eddie” Case Memorial Boulevard.

Case served as city administrator for Simpsonville from January 2017 until his unexpected death from a heart attack the following August. Case was a Fountain Inn City Council member for two decades and city administrator from 2006 until he took the job in Simpsonville.

A section of McCarter Road in Fountain Inn from S.C. Highway 14 to Interstate 385 was renamed after Case after the General Assembly adopted a resolution to do so in May. Simpsonville Mayor Janice Curtis, who attended the event on South Main Street, said the road dedication in Fountain Inn is just one way to show how much Case meant to the cities he served.

“I had the wonderful privilege of working with Eddie and got to see his passion for people and community on a day-to-day basis,” Mayor Curtis said. “Eddie’s legacy is that he gave of himself, strove to be the best person he could be and most of all treated people with respect and kindness. We all have something to learn from Eddie.”

Friends, family and community members reminisced about Case at the corner of South Main Street and formerly McCarter Road. Chairman of the S.C. Department of Transportation Commission Ben H. Davis Jr. spoke at the gathering. As a former Fountain Inn City Council member and mayor, Davis knew Case both as a colleague and a friend.

Davis said Case was humble and probably a “little uncomfortable” with people singing his praises and naming a road after him.

“Let me assure you of this,” Case told the crowd. “There’s never been (a road dedication) I’ve been prouder of, never one I’ll remember more than having the honor to say the Department of Transportation agrees wholeheartedly with renaming this road. Eddie, we remember you; we love you.”
