City awarded "highest form of recognition" in governmental accounting
Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting based on 'spirit of full disclosure'
Simpsonville, S.C. – The City of Simpsonville has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report for the most recent fiscal year by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
The report for fiscal year ending June 30, 2022 was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a "constructive spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report, according to a GFOA news release.
"The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management," the news release said.
Simpsonville City Administrator Dianna Gracely said the annual recognition validates the hard work of staff on a daily basis.
"The City of Simpsonville prides itself on transparency and accountability in its financial reporting," said Gracely, who has more than two decades of experience in local government finances and budgeting. "We have a dedicated team of accounting professionals who help us achieve the highest standards for our taxpayers."
