Hundreds attend Movies in the Park

Public practices social distancing

Simpsonville, S.C. — More than 600 people attended the 2020 season premiere of Movies in the Park.

The Simpsonville Parks & Recreation Department hosted a free showing of Frozen II at the CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park Thursday night. Approximately 631 people came out for the event.

Special Events Coordinator for the City of Simpsonville Lisa Everidge said the event was a big success.

"We could not be more happy with both the turnout for our first showing of Movies in the Park this year and how well people practiced social distancing," Everidge said. "It was great to see families and kids out having fun. There were a lot of smiles. It was a perfect night."

To help prevent the spread of the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019, Parks & Recreation staff drew 113 circles on the Amphitheatre grass to encourage the public to social distance. The response from the public to the request for social distancing was positive.

Community Relations Specialist Justin Campbell said the City really appreciates the public.

"The event last night is a great example of how we can continue to enjoy the outdoors while social distancing to prevent spread of the virus," Campbell said. "Simpsonville residents and visitors who came out really made the premiere of Movies in the Park a simply cinematic night."

The Parks & Recreation Department will continue Movies in the Park by hosting free showings of Toy Story 4 on July 16 and Playing with Fire on Aug. 4.
