Thursday Waste Reduction Tip #1

waste reduction tip 1 - empty boxes

Empty boxes can be remade into new boxes

Simpsonville, S.C. — One every-day way to reduce waste is turning empty boxes into new boxes.

While recycling cardboard and other after-use products does have a positive impact on the environment, reusing products like cardboard boxes has an even greater impact. Recycling cardboard still takes an energy equivalent of 75 percent of what it takes to make new cardboard.

Instead of tossing out all of those moving boxes, save a few to use for your next potential move, boxing up holiday decorations or transporting your recyclables to a drop-off center. Remember that our overall goal is waste reduction, and reducing, reusing and recycling are tools for reaching that goal.

The "Thursday Waste Reduction Tip" is part of a public education campaign by the City of Simpsonville and Simpsonville Public Works Department to promote a comprehensive approach to waste reduction so as to ensure a Simply Sustainable Simpsonville.
