Citywide litter pickup planned again for fall

Simpsonville, S.C. — Volunteers removed 440 pounds of garbage from the city limits of Simpsonville over the weekend for the Simpsonville Simply Beautiful Cleanup Day.

The Public Works Department retrieved on Saturday several bags of litter set on the roadside by about 60 volunteers. Community Relations Specialist Justin Campbell said the City of Simpsonville is appreciative to the volunteers, event sponsor Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County and partners for a litter-free South Carolina Keep Greenville County Beautiful and Palmetto Pride.

"Removing nearly 500 pounds of litter from busy roads on a Saturday morning is no small feat," Campbell said. "Simpsonville residents take a great amount of pride in where they live, and coming together to keep Simpsonville Simply Beautiful is a community-wide effort."

The City of Simpsonville is planning for a second litter pickup event this year in October. Simpsonville Simply Beautiful Cleanup Day is a biannual event that was disrupted by the pandemic in 2020.

"For all those residents and visitors who understand the problem of litter and want to be part of the solution, mark your calendars for October," Campbell said.
