Meet Your Community Relations Specialist

Since June 2018 Justin Campbell has served as community relations specialist for the City of Simpsonville. Prior to joining the Simpsonville team, Justin was a staff writer for The (Seneca) Journal in Oconee County and news editor for The Tiger, the student newspaper for Clemson University, from which Justin graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's in psychology. "A degree in psychology has certainly come in handy in this position," Justin says — he did not elaborate. A self-described vagabond of the Upstate, Justin grew up in Anderson and spent most of the rest of his years in Greenville before moving to Simpsonville in 2021.

Over the nearly six years that he has overseen Simpsonville Community Relations, Justin has defined and grown the position. In 2019 Justin helped lead the adoption of the "Simply Home" brand, plan and manage with the Simpsonville Arts Foundation, Inc. the Simpsonville Music Series & Food Truck Rodeo and organize the first Simpsonville Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. As City coordinator for the United Way of Greenville County pledge campaign, Justin oversaw an increase among employee pledges from about $6,200 in 2017 to more than $21,000 by 2023. Other initiatives and projects that Justin has created, managed or assisted with include cleanup days, formation of the Simpsonville Youth Advisory Board, blood drives, opening and operation of the Simpsonville Arts Center, rebranding of Celebrate Simpsonville to Simply Freedom Fest, publication of a quarterly e-newsletter and founding, producing, writing and co-hosting The Simpsonville SIMPLY SAID. Podcast. A major priority for Justin in 2024 is to lead an effective, comprehensive and sustainable litter prevention program for the City of Simpsonville.
