Buckle up, driver sober, slow down

Simpsonville, S.C. — As Christmas Day and New Year's Eve edge closer and closer, the Simpsonville Police Department is asking the public to 'put safety first' to ensure all have a happy holidays and merry Christmas.

Simpsonville police are reminding drivers and passengers of motor vehicles to buckle up, slow down, drive sober, watch for pedestrians and ditch distractions. Traffic Safety Ofc. Adam Bradshaw said following these reminders will be the difference between enjoying a safe holiday with family or going to jail, visiting the hospital or worse.

"During this time of year, we know that people get in a hurry or become frustrated on the road, but drivers need to remember that making it to a party or event on time isn't worth losing your life or taking someone else's," Bradshaw said. "Drivers should put their phones down and always keep their eyes on the road but especially in the type of bumper-to-bumper traffic that we see during the shopping season. What's worse: being 5 minutes late to a party with friends or not making it all because you got into a car accident?"

On behalf of the Simpsonville Police Department, have a Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Stay simply safe, everyone.
