Police Department Patch Symbolism

Simpsonville Police Patch

We are proud to present the uniform patch worn by the Simpsonville Police Department. The current patch was created in 2012 and updated in 2018, our diligent officers chose local landmarks and state symbols to incorporate into the Simpsonville Police Patch.

The building depicted in the patch is the building formerly known as Burdette Hardware located at the intersection of Main and Curtis streets that housed the first emergency phone lines in the city.

The clock tower is the center point of Main Street and a known landmark for Simpsonville. Please take notice that the hands of the clock read 09:11 as a tribute to all of the fallen heroes and the families affected by the attacks on September 11, 2001.

The American flag is depicted with a blue line for the symbol of the Law Enforcement brotherhood.  Also visible on the patch is the state of SC logo (i.e. the crescent moon and palmetto tree), which is proudly displayed on the SC state flag. The patch was updated in 2018 where the gold trim on the patch and the around the text was replaced with the blue from the flag to present the officers standing on the thin blue line.

The Simpsonville Police Department is represented by more than 40 sworn law enforcement officers and civilian support staff.  The City of Simpsonville is located in the upstate of South Carolina within Greenville County.

Investigations Division Patch

Investigations Division Patch

This patch was a result of the collaboration of employees of the Investigation Division. Each item depicted in the patch symbolizes the varied duties of investigators. The crime scene tape is one of the most common and recognized tool used by investigators. The magnifying glass and fingerprint symbolize the intricate detail to attention each investigator uses to solve crimes and the Grim Reaper symbolizes death and the evil that criminals inflict on victims. It is on the patch not to cause fear, but a reminder of why we do our jobs to the best of our abilities so that we may bring justice and closure for those who fall victim.

Narcotics and Vice Patch

Narcotics and Vice Patch

This patch was a collaboration of employees of the Vice & Narcotics Unit. The drugs and dice are most common symbols associated with these types of investigations. The skull is there as a reminder of the harm and evil that narcotics cause in victim’s lives. The bullet hole is a symbol of the fatality of narcotics abuse and the pain it causes and leaves behind. Just like the skull and cross bones depicted on a poison bottle these symbols are a reminder of why we fight so hard against the evil that drugs cause to the victims, their families and everyone effected by them.

Alpha Shift Patch

Alpha Shift Patch

The Alpha shift patch's simple design is indicative of the blue collar work ethic that is essential to the shift’s values.  The blue "A" is symbolic of law enforcement.  The phrase "Duty, Honor, Justice" is essence of the shift’s ideals, values, and is the symbol of the moral code of law enforcement.  Duty is defined as a moral or legal responsibility.  As police officers, we have a responsibility, both morally and legally, to serve and protect the community and citizens of the City of Simpsonville.  Honor is a matter of carrying out, acting, and living the values of respect, duty, loyalty, selfless service, integrity and personal courage in everything we do as law enforcement officers.  Additionally, it is an honor to serve our community and serve a cause that is greater than each individual officer.  Justice, in this context, is the dedication to an ideal of the fair and equitable treatment of all individuals under the law.

Bravo Shift Patch

Bravo Shift Patch

Bravo Leads the Way!  A statement that embodies the mission of our team and is boldly displayed on the shift patch. The phrase was coined by a member of Bravo Shift and signifies the pride we take in being leaders with every aspect of our duties. The Calvary hat represents that we are the first ones in, while the skull shows that we stay until the job is done, no matter how long it takes. The weapons in background are "tools of the trade" and mean that we are prepared for whatever comes our way.  Bravo Shift feels confident knowing that any team members proudly displaying the patch on their uniform, or decal on their car, represent the very best service this department has to offer.

Charlie Shift Patch

Charlie Shift Patch

The wolf symbolizes direction, leadership, and protection. The wolf symbol signifies strength, endurance, instinct linked with intelligence, and family values associated with being part of a pack.  As a "pack," we are a closely knit group of officers that thrive in the Charlie Shift team environment within the team/family/pack of SPD.  Semper Volentes means "always willing."  Always willing to stand out and strive to be leaders of the pack while providing the best customer service to those we serve.  The thin blue line is a symbol used by law enforcement in the United States and Canada to commemorate fallen officers and to symbolize the relationship of the police in the community as the protectors of the citizenry from the criminal element.

The trim color of yellow represents courage.   The color yellow is also a symbolism of optimism, idealism and hope.  Idealism is the attitude of a person who believes that it is possible to live according to very high standards of behavior and honesty (www.Merriam-Webster.com).

Delta Shift Patch

Delta Shift Patch

The shape of the patch is represented by the State of South Carolina and denotes our certification as a Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer, certified by the state of South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.  The phrase of the patch "Through the Smoke Delta Rises", reminds us of our fallen brother’s and sister’s in blue and our ongoing relationship with the citizens in our community.  In our line of work, we face adversity and obstacles from all fronts, but we continue to remain true to ourselves and rise to any occasion.  The picture of the phoenix is a continuation of our strength and resilience towards the obstacles faced on a daily basis.  It also represents Delta Shift's efforts to rise above it all and succeed.  The 1* Logo on the patch reminds us to be careful in our daily duties risking our lives as police officers.  It also gives us a little humor to help relieve the stress we face daily.

School Resource Officer Patch

School Resource Officer Patch

The School Resource Officer (SRO) patch represents the intricate working relationship between the Simpsonville Police Department and the three middle and high schools inside the city limits.  Our SRO's work in the following three schools: (1) Hillcrest High School- home of the Rams, (2) Hillcrest Middle School- home of the Wildcats, and (3) Bryson Middle School- home of the Bulldogs. On the patch each school is represented by its own unique symbol or mascot.  The words School Resource Officer and SPD tell you who the patch represents. The words "Protecting Simpsonville's Future" tells you the motto of the Simpsonville Police Department's SRO program. In essence, by protecting the students while they are in school and providing a safe learning environment, the SRO's are protecting the future leaders and citizens of Simpsonville.  This approach ensures that Simpsonville will continue to grow in a positive direction for generations to come.
