The playground in Gracely Park remains closed the week of May 18 due ongoing removal of trees posing a safety risk to the public. Read the below statement for more information:
Portions of Gracely Park will be closed the weeks of May 11 and May 18 for the removal of 7 trees posing a safety risk to the public: 6 in the playground area and 1 near the basketball court. These trees are dying due to disease and insect damage, which have compromised their structural integrity and created a risk of falling limbs or tree failure, especially in high-use areas where children and families gather.
Due to the risk of injury—or worse—posed by the trees, portions of the park, including the playground, will be temporarily closed the week of May 11, through the weekend, and a portion of the week of May 18 so contractors can safely complete the work. The rest of the park will remain open.
Here’s what’s next:
-City staff is evaluating shade structures for the playground.
-The City is planning a community tree-planting event this fall.
We are committed to keeping Gracely Park safe and enjoyable for our community in both the present and future.
More updates will be shared soon. Thank you for supporting our parks and public spaces.
