Protecting Simpsonville since 1922
Established in 1922, the Simpsonville Fire Department has protected the city and surrounding areas for over a century. Initially funded by contract fees, fire protection shifted to a taxation model in the mid-1980s. Today, the department provides fire suppression, medical first response, hazardous materials handling, various rescue services, and more. Since 2004, it has been a DHEC-licensed First Response agency, delivering EMT-level medical care in Greenville County.

Our Service Area
The Simpsonville Fire Department serves 30 square miles, including the city of Simpsonville and parts of Greenville County, protecting 55,000 residents. The district includes 7 schools, over 164 subdivisions, 916 businesses, 16 apartment complexes, 9 hotels, and more than 40 places of worship.
ISO Fire Protection Rating
The Insurance Services Office (ISO) rates a community's fire protection capabilities on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the best. The Simpsonville Fire Department currently holds an excellent ISO rating of 2, helping keep insurance costs lower for residents and businesses.
Mutual Aid and Disaster Response
As part of state and county mutual aid agreements, the Simpsonville Fire Department shares resources with surrounding departments. Our crews have assisted during hurricanes, floods, and wildfires, ensuring that our community receives grants and expanded services.

The Simpsonville Fire Department employs 75 dedicated personnel, including 69 firefighters working on a 24-hour shift rotation. Staffing at each station is determined by the Fire Chief to meet the district’s needs, with teams at headquarters and five other stations. Additionally, six administrative staff, including the Chief, Assistant Chief, Fire Marshal, and others, work a weekday schedule from offices at 102 Academy Street.
