Announcement of candidate will be made upon finalization of the contract
Simpsonville, S.C. — The City of Simpsonville has selected an entertainment venue operator to manage the CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park.
Simpsonville City Council voted at the December business meeting to direct City Administrator Tee Coker to enter contract negotiations with the contractor named in executive session for the management of the CCNB Amphitheatre – an important step forward in providing high-quality entertainment services in Heritage Park. City Council directed Mr. Coker to return a proposed contract to Council at the next possible Committee of the Whole meeting.
The City will announce the company upon finalization of a contract and its approval by City Council.
Mayor Paul Shewmaker, who served on the selection committee, said the selection of a new venue manager is the next step in securing a strong partnership for pursuing excellence in entertainment services for both the venue and community.
“Our goal from the start has been to ensure that the CCNB Amphitheatre continues to serve as a premier venue for live entertainment and a source of pride for the people of Simpsonville,” Mayor Shewmaker said. “The committee’s recommendation reflects a thoughtful and transparent process to identify a partner that shares our values of community, professionalism and quality.”
The decision follows a competitive selection process begun in October with a request for proposals by the City, the responses to which a selection committee reviewed in December. Appointed to the committee by City Council, Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmember Sherry Roche (Ward 4) and Councilmember Tim Pinkerton (Ward 5) joined Mayor Shewmaker, Mr. Coker, Finance Director Maria Tooley and Assistant Parks & Recreation Director Chad Foster in interviewing qualified candidates.
Council received the recommendation for the new manager of the CCNB Amphitheatre in executive session at the end of the Dec. 9 meeting. Upon re-entering public session, Council voted 6-0 to accept the recommendation. Mr. Coker and the selection committee will negotiate the terms of a contract with the contractor for Council’s review and subsequent approval by January.
Council also voted 6-0 to authorize Mr. Coker to hire an attorney with experience in drafting entertainment contracts to advise in negotiations.
The CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park is the leading outdoor concert venue in South Carolina and hosts major touring acts and community events throughout the year. To build on the Amphitheatre’s success, the City of Simpsonville will partner with the newly selected venue manager in enhancing operations, attracting premium talent and improving overall visitor experience.
