Property PLUS donates $1,250 for smoke detectors, batteries
Simpsonville, S.C. — The Simpsonville Fire Department received a check for $1,250 from Property PLUS for the purchase of smoke detectors and batteries for the Simpsonville community on Thursday.
Assistant Fire Chief Travis Vaughn said the Fire Department was grateful to Property PLUS for its “generous donation” that supports the department’s Fire Prevention Program.
“With this donation, we can purchase smoke detectors and batteries to help the community in need of smoke detectors in their home,” said Vaughn, who gave Property PLUS President/Owner Nick Conner and Business Development Manager Brent Poynter a tour of the new Fire Department headquarters and station 1.
The Simpsonville Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Program will use the donated funds to purchase smoke detectors and batteries for smoke detectors to then disperse throughout the community to those residents in need. The death rate per 1,000 home structure fires is approximately 60 percent lower in homes with working smoke alarms than in homes with no alarms or none that operated, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Simply put: working smoke alarms save lives and property.
